Avanti can be installed as a service to automatically start when the host system boots. When installed as a service on a supported Windows host, Avanti enables the Automatic Delayed Start option by default.
When installing Avanti as a service, considering the following:
•The Avanti configuration must be set up to auto boot. See Launching Avanti Without the Console for details on auto booting.
•No control icon is displayed when Avanti is run as a service. The Avanti service can be stopped and started from the Windows Services management console.
•Stopping the Avanti service crashes the virtual Alpha system. Always halt the Avanti guest O/S before stopping the Avanti service
•Clear Start session automatically for the serial ports (including OPA0/tty00 and TTA0/tty01) so the service does not try to launch an interactive terminal program without a user desktop. This clears action; it does not disable the Telnet listeners. They remain available for manually started clients. Leave allow_remote false for local-only access; an existing true setting still exposes the listener on all IPv4 interfaces, subject to firewall and network rules. Review Telnet Server before allowing remote access.
•Enable the Avanti auto_exit feature. See Virtual Alpha Base Settings for details.
