Use the following procedure when the exact curated OpenVMS V7.0 system running on Avanti's AlphaServer 400 model does not present a normal OPA0 login after installation. The procedure has been exercised with a KZPAA system disk; it is not blanket qualification of every V7.0 kit, patch level, or controller.
>>> BOOT DKA0 -FLAGS 0,1
SYSBOOT> SET/START=OPA0:
SYSBOOT> CONTINUE
The system boots to a DCL prompt. Spawn a subprocess so that the console remains usable when the process that runs the startup procedure logs out, then run the system startup procedure.
$ SET NOON
$ SPAWN
%DCL-S-SPAWNED, process SYSTEM_1 spawned
%DCL-S-ATTACHED, terminal now attached to process SYSTEM_1
$ @SYS$SYSTEM:STARTUP
When the startup procedure returns control, spawn again to obtain a subprocess that remains available for recovery work such as installing licenses.
$ SET NOON
$ SPAWN
%DCL-S-SPAWNED, process SYSTEM_1 spawned
%DCL-S-ATTACHED, terminal now attached to process SYSTEM_1
$ SET DEF SYS$SYSTEM:
When recovery work is finished, shut the system down. Perform another conversational boot and restore the normal startup procedure before continuing normal use.
>>> BOOT DKA0 -FLAGS 0,1
SYSBOOT> SET/START=SYS$SYSTEM:STARTUP.COM
SYSBOOT> CONTINUE
