Avanti supports OpenVMS Alpha V6.1-1H1 and later. This is the guest-family support boundary, not a claim that every installation kit, layered product, virtual-device combination, or field-test release has been qualified with every Avanti release.

An unqualified OpenVMS V6.1 installation kit can predate AlphaServer 400 support and is not interchangeable with V6.1-1H1. Verify the complete version and hardware-update level displayed by the installation kit rather than relying on an abbreviated media label.

Use the KZPAA narrow SCSI controller with OpenVMS releases before V7.1-2. The supported KZPCA wide-controller matrix starts at OpenVMS V7.1-2. Recorded runtime testing confirms that V7.1 rejects KZPCA while V7.1-2 boots and performs storage I/O with KZPCA.

A version beginning with E identifies a field-test kit. For example, E8.2 is not OpenVMS V8.2 and does not establish support for a final V8.2 release.
