An OpenVMS migration can use normal OpenVMS backup and restore mechanisms, including a network transfer, but it is not a universal copy-and-boot operation. Before changing the source system, retain a verified backup and recovery path. Plan for the exact OpenVMS release, source storage and network drivers, Avanti disk and NIC configuration, licenses, boot variables, and application dependencies; validate the migrated system independently before cutover.
