Selecting the Telnet server option allows the user to define a virtual serial port.
Port
Port defines the TCP port number assigned to this Telnet listener. Enter an integer from 1 through 65534; a configuration-file telnet block must specify port explicitly. The configuration utility supplies initial assignments starting with 9000, which can be changed in the Port field. Connect locally to 127.0.0.1 and that port number.
Tip: If running multiple instances of Avanti on a single host, don't forget to assign each virtual serial port a unique port number.
By default, allow_remote is false: Avanti binds the listener only to the IPv4 loopback address 127.0.0.1. A firewall exception does not make a loopback-only listener remotely accessible. To allow remote connections, enable allow_remote in the Advanced section of the Telnet Port [+] dialog. This binds to all host IPv4 interfaces, not to a selected interface. Remote access also depends on the applicable host firewall and network rules.
Telnet traffic is not encrypted, and this listener does not provide its own user-authentication gate. Guest operating-system login controls do not protect access to firmware console functions. Enable remote access only where the network exposure is acceptable, particularly for the console port (OPA0/tty00); leave allow_remote false when remote access is unnecessary.
A client that cannot keep up with emulator output is disconnected when its pending Telnet output exceeds 256 KiB or a socket send makes no progress for five seconds. This protects the emulator from slow or stalled readers. A CTS-W-SLOWCLIENT message in the emulator log identifies this disconnect; reconnect the terminal and check its receive path or network connection if it recurs.
Start Session
Start session automatically controls whether Avanti launches a terminal program during emulator initialization. It does not enable or disable the Telnet listener. Clearing the box leaves the listener available for a manually started client and clears its action command. See Telnet Port [+] for custom commands and Launching Avanti Without the Console for service operation.
