Avanti supports two packet capture backends: the bundled MsiPcap driver and the third-party Npcap driver. Npcap is preferred and is used by default when a compatible installation is available; otherwise Avanti falls back to MsiPcap.
See Npcap Installation to obtain and install Npcap. Npcap is not supplied or licensed by Migration Specialties, so review its license for the intended use. Set use_npcap_driver = false under VLC [+] to prevent Avanti and its Configuration Utility from using an installed Npcap copy that is not licensed for Avanti use.
NDIS Driver |
Characteristics |
Npcap |
Supported NDIS6 driver and Avanti's preferred backend. Follow Npcap Installation and reboot Windows. If a compatible installation is available and use_npcap_driver remains true, Avanti uses it instead of MsiPcap. Avanti normally uses a physical adapter directly with Npcap; no TAP adapter or Windows Network Bridge is ordinarily required. Installation does not by itself establish that the Npcap license permits use by Avanti. |
MsiPcap |
Bundled Avanti driver installed with the product and used automatically when Npcap is unavailable or use_npcap_driver is false. Depending on the host network path, communication between Avanti and its own Windows host or another emulator on that host can require a TAP adapter and Windows Network Bridge. |
Note:After installing or updating Npcap, reboot before starting Avanti.
